Bealls Department Stores Launches School Grant Program

Bealls will give $100,000 in grants to Florida schools during 2010-2011 school year

BRADENTON, Fla., - August 13, 2010 Bealls Department Stores, Inc., today officially announced the Bealls and Whistles for Schools grant program, that will give $10,000 grants to ten Florida schools. Students, schools and teachers can go to BeallsandWhistlesforSchools.com to get more information, view the official rules, and download a grant application.

The ten $10,000 grants will be awarded to the Kindergarten to 12th grade (K-12) schools, including public, non-profit, charter, and private schools located in and licensed by the state of Florida, that demonstrate the most compelling need, the best plan of action to address that need, and the best use of funds. Bealls has provided broad definitions of the ways in which the money can be used, so that the winning schools can put the funding toward their area of greatest need – computers, textbooks, arts enrichment programs, playground equipment, athletic equipment, etc.

"At Bealls we are excited to launch the Bealls and Whistles for Schools program. As a Floridabased company, we live and work in the same communities as our customers, and we understand the struggles of our local schools,” said Mary Beth Fox, Vice President of Marketing for Beall’s Department Stores, Inc. “And, as a Florida-based company, it is our responsibility to give back to our local communities, especially to education. Today’s students are our state’s future, and we want them to have the best educational experience possible.”.

The entire Bealls Department Store team is committed to the Bealls and Whistles for Schools program. Each Bealls Department Store has a Bealls and Whistles panel that will judge all submitted applications from their area. The finalist school from each store will receive at least 5 volunteer hours from their local Bealls store, as part of the Bealls and Whistles for Schools program.

Applications for Bealls and Whistles for Schools grants will be accepted December 1-31, 2010 at Bealls Department Stores across the state of Florida. Schools interested in applying for grants should visit BeallsandWhistlesforSchools.com for complete details.
